Feel like you’re constantly in "perpetual motion"?
In our busy modern lives, it's easy to find ourselves caught in perpetual motion. Between busy schedules, full inboxes and phone alerts, our nervous systems are often in a state of high alert. If you've been feeling depleted and disconnected, your body is likely asking for a moment to ground and reset.
To move from surviving to thriving, we must first invite stability back into our days.
🌱 The Gentle Invitation of Grounding
Grounding is more than a wellness concept; it is an essential act of self-care for your entire system. When you consciously bring your awareness to the exact points where your body meets the ground, you send a direct message to your mind that you are safe in this present moment.Â
This simple shift allows your nervous system to transition from active/stressed to rest/digest, which lowers cortisol/stress levels, slows your heart rate and allows your body to naturally reset and repair.
🌳 Tree Pose / Vrksasana

Tree Pose is a great tangible way to explore the feeling of being grounded. By rooting one foot into the mat, you build physical stability from the ground up.Â
How to practise:
Stand tall and press into 4 corners (big toe and little toe mounds and inner and outer heels) of your right foot - root it firmly into the ground. Rest your gaze on a still point ahead of you

Place your left heel against your ankle (option to play with hovering big toe off ground), or foot against lower or upper leg - listen to what your body needs, and avoid the knee.

Draw your tailbone down and lower belly in to stabilise your spine. Press your foot and leg into one another to create a strong 'trunk'.

Stay with hands on waist or bring together at heart centre, or extend your arms upward like branches.
Repeat on left side.
✨ The Mindful Benefit
Practising this balance requires intense focus, which naturally quiets a busy mind. It teaches us to build awareness from the ground up and that swaying in the wind is okay.
Final Thoughts
You don’t have to stay stuck in a cycle of high alert, perpetual motion or constant busyness. Grounding yourself is not about being rigid or perfectly still; it's about reconnecting with your body to reset your nervous system - the ultimate act of self-care.
🌿 Put It into Practice: The 7-Day Balance Play
Commit to a mini-experiment this week to see how your body and mind respond:
🌳 The Challenge: Have a play with your balance by practising Tree Pose for 5 minutes a day for the next 7 days.
🌴 The Routine: Notice how your stability shifts from morning to evening, or from day to day. Remember that swaying is part of the process.
🌱 The Reflection: At the end of the week, check in with yourself. Do you feel more anchored? Is your mind a bit quieter?
